The Marine claims group

Gard News presents the members of staff who look after Marine claims in Bergen and Oslo.

The Marine claims section of the Claims Department in Bergen and Oslo handles mainly hull and machinery and loss of hire claims.

The team currently comprises 18 people with a spread of competence which includes master mariners, pilots, engineers, surveyors, superintendents, lawyers and insurance specialists. Some members of the team also have experience with shipyards, manufacturers and other suppliers. The team provides clients with loss prevention advice, incident handling support, assistance in negotiations with third parties, adjustment of claims and, last but not least, speedy settlement of claims. In cases involving damage to vessels, a 24-hour emergency response service is available, ensuring that repairs are carried out effectively and vessels are back in operation as soon as possible. The team handles over 200 clients for whom Gard is claims leader, involving about 400 vessels under hull cover and 1,700 under loss of hire cover, and approximately 325 clients on a non-lead basis.
