Gard builds Defence capabilities

Gard announced today that it has recruited Michael Moon, currently a partner at the London-based solicitors, Bentleys Stokes and Lowless, as a Senior Defence lawyer to work in its Oslo office. He will join Gard on the 1st April, 2010.  

Alice Amundsen, Vice President of the Defence department commented "Defence is a key part of our product range, particularly in these challenging times. Michael's wealth of experience across a range of international maritime issues will enhance our capabilities in this area even further, increasing the breadth and depth of service available."

Michael Moon added: "Gard's pre-eminence in the marine insurance market, in terms of service and reputation, makes this a very exciting move for me.  I look forward to working with my new colleagues to extend Gard's offering."

Gard is a shipowner-controlled provider of P&I, marine and energy insurance products, with an annual premium income of USD 796 million and total assets of USD 2.02 billion. Gard employs over 390 people in 11 offices around the world.

The P&I division has an entered tonnage in excess of 170 million gt, and gross written premium in the 2008 policy year of USD 460 million.

The marine division has over 6400 entered vessels and a gross written premium income of USD 230 million in 2008.

The energy division's gross written premium for 2008 totalled USD 106 million.
