Claes Isacson Scholarship winners announced

Gard announced today that Imola Szanto from Sweden and Hasan Tahsin Azizagaoglu from Turkey are this year’s winners of the Claes Isacson Scholarship.
The winners
Imola is currently completing her Master of Laws studies at Stockholm University where she will graduate in June this year. Simultaneously, she has been conducting a Master Mariner Program at the Linnaeus University which she is expected to complete in June 2021. Prior to this, Imola has also trained and completed a Ships Officer with a Class VII certificate. She has held several shipboard internships, serving on various vessels from icebreakers to oil tankers and expedition vessels in the Arctic.
Hasan is a postgraduate researcher at the University of Southampton and a double graduate of Southampton having undertaken the LL.B with Maritime Law and LL.M in Maritime Law. He is currently writing on his PhD thesis. Hasan has also very relevant experience in addition to his studies; he has worked as a Legal intern at Bench Walk Advisors as well as holding summer internships at Ersoy Bilgehan Lawyers & Consultants and at the Port of Ambarli.

Announcing the winner, Rolf Thore Roppestad, CEO of Gard commented “This annual scholarship is designed to help young people finance an education at university level, with a view to finding work within the shipping and marine insurance sectors. Imola and Hasan are both intent on pursuing a career in the maritime industries and we’re delighted to award the scholarship to such deserving candidates.
