Gard announces sponsorship of a Maritime London Officer Cadet
In 1992 a small group of Lloyd's underwriters established the Lloyd's of London Officer Cadet Scholarship as a charity to support training of seafaring officers and improved standards. The scheme was renamed the Maritime London Officer Cadet Scholarship (MLOCS) in 2002, to reflect sponsorship and donations made by the wider maritime services industry in the City of London.
A dinner was held at Trinity House, London, on 3 July 2018 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Scholarship. As one of the first two Lloyds Cadets to join the scheme in 1992, Tim Howse, Vice President, Industry Liaison in Gard, gave a speech at the dinner, to share his personal experience of the scheme, and he announced the intention of Gard (UK) Ltd. to sponsor a MLOCS cadet throughout a three-year training period.
Gard's sponsorship will give a cadet the chance to have a really great career at sea, or ashore, in due course, and the sponsorship directly contributes to the continued prosperity and quality of seafaring standards. Gard's decision speaks volumes of a very worthy scheme, sitting perfectly alongside Gard's overarching desire to enable sustainable maritime development, as part of its 2025 aspirations.
